Took my MY '01 to the dealer today for the TSB and they told me the kit costs US$350. Is this right? Do I have to pay or is it supposed to be covered by Honda?

My problem is starting the car cold in the morning. It fires up but shuts down rapidly and I have to start it a couple of times before it stays on.
There is a great difference in prices. Are these guys thieves or what?

When I worked for a Lincoln dealers parts department, they sent me to a Ford sponsored part forum. All they talked about was how do drum up wholesale business because Ford would offer incentives for bulk orders of Motorcraft branded parts. If I could establish any significant business selling such parts to local stores, I could make pretty good money for the dealer.
The problem was, we were a new and "very" small dealership and didn't have that option. When I, and another parts manager in a similar situation, asked what we should do when all of our business comes from walk-in retail customers, the answer was, "Take them for all you can get!"
That was over 20 years ago and I've seen nothing in any dealership I've done business with to indicate that that attitude has changed in any way.

Dealers are not obligated to carry out tsb's, only recalls. Sometimes it can be goodwilled, if the dealer is cool.
The bulliten calls for a new sensor (which is actually the same as the old sensor, which may have slight problems caused initially by a faulty connection). In addition, a specialized holder/tie strap is used to secure the connection, to prevent damage to the new sensor.
If the sensor has not already sustained minute damage from a bad connection, a simple homemade solution is very likely to cure it. Xviper has a lil how-to on this hot setup...
