Ok i had the gears installed last week, and the whine was not very noticable until tonight. I still haven't even finished the break in period.
i can't hear my radio, i have a apex n1 catback exhaust and test pipe and i can hear the whine over the exhaust note.
The whine gets louder as i increase my speed, if i let off the gas the whine goes away. Its very very loud between 30-60 mph, then goes back to a steady whine at 60-65.
What should i do? How long can i drive on it like this? The only reason i ask is because i just sold my beater car, and now i need this to drive to school and work.

Obviously you have a problem. Most likely a bad install but until you open it up, there is no way of knowing. Take it back immediately, you can be causing yourself more money by waiting.

Yes i realize its a bad install, my problem is that the shop isn't open again until monday. I need to drive to work today and tomorrow (about a 70 mile round trip).
By searching on here all last night, i'm guessing the problem is the gears meshing together. Some people have had a loud whine and the car has lasted a few thousand miles. So i'm probably already starting a bad pattern in the gears from the meshing with the whine.
I'm just wondering if it can last me another 200 miles or so, until i can get back to the shop and put my stock diff back in... I'm over the gears

well i made the commute to work, whine is still there.
Another thing.. right before i started hearing the whine i smelt burning oil for a few seconds. I checked the diff and i didn't see any leaks though.

I'm taking it back tomorrow to have my stock diff put back in. What can i tell the guy to back up my claim that it was a bad install? I am not asking for much, i just want him to put my stock diff back in for free.
any suggestions?

they f'ed up your gear install, and so because of that, you're going to go back to your stock diff? what are you going to do with your other diff?
who did the actual gear install? did they replace all of the OEM parts? what was their shim depth? what did they set the backlash to?

I have no idea about the shim depth, backlash etc... It was a shop that is highly recomended in so cal (ramjet)
My diff with the 4.77 is now for sale... it never stoped working, just really loud. I am selling for $200
If you want to see the whole horror story of my experience with the gears due to RAMJET, check this out https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=354150
