Default Major bummer -- blew up engine

the timing chain on my 2007 let go, and i'm afraid my engine is toast. we are still assessing the damage to the valves, rods, etc. any advice on where to get a rebuilt engine that i can trust? any other advice on how to deal with this revolting development? thx in advance.

there are lots of low mile ap2 engines in the for sale forum from time to time, post up in the want to buy forum as well. I don't know of any rebuilt ones but nothing wrong with running a low mile ap2 used engine.

A broken timing chain is highly rare, was it the cause or the result of the failed engine ?.

The timing chain on an S2k doesn't just break that easily. Its possible the TCT was installed incorrectly and the piston was putting too much tension on the chain. The valves are probably bent, but your motor may still be usable just by the description you have here. Please feel free to call me, I'd like to know more about the situation and I can give you my best advice to help remedy your issue.

How can you install a TCT wrong?? It only goes in one way. Unless it had some missing parts...

If you install it without it being preloaded that can put too much tension on the chain.

You need to either pin it, or use a nut and bolt to hold it back, then install it and then release the tension by either pulling the pin through the acess port or removing the nut and bolt.

Doing otherwise will cause trouble.

Was any work done to the car just before the chain broke?
