Default Maintenance Schedule in plain english

I've searched my owners manual and these message boards and can't find a straight answer on maintenance intervals. Maybe i'm searching the wrong terms, but this is driving me nuts!

My owners manual talks about the "maintenance minder", which is essentially telling me that this feature will tell me when I need to do all maintenance.

I'm looking for the intervals for all fluid changes under NORMAL driving conditions. i'm a little puzzled....this manual seriously doesn't state these intervals...it provides the symbols for main and sub maintenance items, but not the milage intervals for normal driving conditions.

Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing the intevals.

I did create the account on owenrs link, and it doesn't provide the intervals, just the sub and main maintenance minder codes.

Great list! I'm doing most of the things on the list myself. Planning on going to Honda to get valve timing checked. 125000 miles...

My owners manual (2001) has this all nicely laid out in charts and text. Did later manuals get rid of this?

Valve clearance checking/adjustments is one of the simplest DIY services you can do on your own car. Need a cold engine so you'll have to drop your car at the dealer the night before. Ya need replacement gaskets and a $10 adjustment tool (to avoid juggling a wrench and screwdriver) and an $8 set of bent feeler gauges. Plan on an hour, two at the most. Details are in the maintenance section here. Videos abound. It's more tedious than difficult. Adjust to the loose end of the range as they tighten in service. Exhaust is the critical valve. While you're in there do a compression check (need a buddy) and, since the plugs are out, spend $40 for new ones. Put in the new spark plug and cover gaskets and tighten to torque spec. Done and satisfying. Much cleaner process than an oil change.

Replaced your TCT? Good preventive maintenance. Good time to do it while you're under the hood/bonnet. Billman unit installs in 10 minutes. I didn't bother changing into work clothes to do mine earlier this summer it's so simple. 10mm ratchet spanner (not socket wrench).

Scheduled maintenance went away in 2006 manual and was replaced by computerized maintenance in the Maintenance Minder built into the instrument cluster. This system bases preventive maintenance services by miles, engine load, etc.

I downloaded the 2005 Owners Manual, the last one with the maintenance schedule, just for verification. I doubt my S2000 will trigger the Maintenance Minder as I do an annual oil/filter change and my annual mileage is less than the interval specified. I currently show 70% oil life remaining from an earlier oil/filter change and reset of the MM. I did the transmission a year ago and will again on the next oil change. Differential probably next year too although it's not called for so soon. Only uses a quart of oil so why not?

I just change the oil when the maintenance light comes on ~5,000 miles, even though I run Castrol edge 10w-30 gold bottle. All the other maintenance I do yearly or bi-yearly. Diff, pcv valve, brake fluid, clutch fluid, grease all latches and hinges, and clean the underside of the car is all done yearly. Tranny fluid, drive belt, A/C drier replacement, brake pads and rotors, I change those out every other year. Coolant once every 3 years, and tires whenever the rears show no inside tread. I also check hoses, and for oil leaks, and instantly replace anything leaking(O-rings, vtec solenoid) or any hose that looks suspect. When I did my clutch I also changed the rear main seal, I know I probably didn't need to, but it was cracking and I hate taking out the transmission. You can also save a lot on maintenance and part replacement by buying high quality parts. OEM is extremely good, there's not a lot that's better than OEM. Things like bearings for instance SKF > NSK as far as bearing quality goes. Everything else though, you'd be hard pressed to find something better than OEM, even the bolts are extremely high quality, except for some questionable fasteners like the driveshaft bolts.

I like to change the valve cover gasket every 3 years. The O2 sensors(at least the primary) should really be replaced after 100,000k, they start to get lazy around then. I do spark plugs along with valve adjustment whenever I replace the valve cover gasket.

I would rethink that. How much experience does the dealer tech have adjusting valves? The only car in the lineup that needs this service is the S, so not much. Add that dealer techs are always rushed, and this is the sort of service you can't even tell if they did it (unless valves are noisy), and they call it the stealership for a reason, well, yoy are asking to get fleeced.

Find a local shop that has experience with adjusting valve cleances, or better yet S2K experience.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to post a relevant update for everyone.

The link has changed, and there is no longer a need to login, just select year and model. It's now: http://owners.honda.com/service-maintenance/minder

Here's the maintenance schedule for a MY06 S, for example: http://owners.honda.com/service-maintenance/minder?year=2006&model=S2000#mid^AP2146ENW

Both Normal and Severe are view-able, and you can expand all and then print easily for reference.
