I know that the light comes and stays on at scheduled mileage intervals to alert the driver that there is scheduled service required, and also for an oil change....and I know about the manual shutoff to take care of it...

What happened to me was that it just flashed, and hasn't come back on since then...so I'm thinking it's just a freak occurence

Thanks for the input everyone
If you had read the owners manual more carefully, or the FAQ in this forum, or the many, many other threads on this subject that supposedly you claim to have searched for, you would have found that at a certain number of miles the light flashes. After that it flashes every time you start the car. After some more miles it comes on continuously and stays on.

the light flashes as a "reminder" that you have an oil change due soon. as it gets closer to the mileage interval, eventually the light will come on and stay on.

the owner's manual says exactly this.

Thanks. I did browse through the manual when I first got it, but didn't remember seeing anything about it flashing first. My bad for posting, I guess I should've put my suit on.

And thanks for actually giving me an answer, so I didn't have to wait until after work to look at the manual.

Are you saying that your friend doesn't have an owner's manual, or are you just trying to cover his (and your own) laziness with that generic statement?

BTW... to add something useful... if your friend did, in fact, buy his car used and it didn't include an Owner's Manual, he should be able to purchase one from Helm Inc:
http://www.helminc.com

Feel free to kick him in the nuts anyway, though.

I understand what your saying, but what's the purpose of these forums, to get a quick answer and some useful help from someone or to get a wiseass response that could have took just as much time as a helpful response. Why type anything if it isn't going to help???????? All of you and your boyfriend's (mikegarrison) post are about nothing. You saw the topic question why did you even click on it if you didn't want to help this guy out?
