Default Maintenance light won't go off

At the strange mileage of 13, 300 miles, the maintenance light came on. No problem, just do the reset thing. Not. When I hold down the trip button and turn on the key, the light flashes twice, then stays on. The longest I've held down the button this way has been three minutes. I have repeated the ritual over a dozen times, same results. Anybody know what gives? I've seen no threads with the same problem. The last thing I want is a dealer tech touching the car.

Naw, I developed the soundproofing kit. The car is bone stock. That is why I am frustrated.

Drive it around the block, then try again. for some reason the cluster can be "bitchy" about reseting. Usually adding a mile or 2 lets the light reset.

The cluster doesn't like reseting with the headlights on either, so make sure they are off.

How to Reset
Push and hold the trip button, turn the ignition switch ON (II), and continue holding the trip button for more than 10 seconds.

Blinking Pattern:
Miles (km)
Maintenance Reminder Light

At 5,900 (9,440) to 6,100 (9,760)
Blinks for 10 seconds when the ignition switch is turned ON (II).

At 7,400 (11,840) to 7,600 (12,160)
Comes on and stays on while the ignition switch is ON (II).

My wife just drove the car and the light stayed on. She called on the cell phone and I gave her the routine. Didn't work. So I had her do it again. Not only is the light still on, she broke a nail. My life, as I once knew it, is now over.

Are you sure it's the "MAINT REQ'D" light and not the Malfunction Indication light (aka Check Engine Light)?

It is the Maintenance light. I guess it's telling the truth, it does need maintenance!

Hmmm. My maintenance light came on a few weeks ago too. I followed xviper's advice and the light went away. I wonder what is wrong with your car? I guess you might need a dealer tech to have a look at your car after all.
