all,
I went to the honda dealer for the 45k service and check up on a couple of noises. The tech claim my LSD as one of the issue. He said I need a new one (~$4k). The dealer said they'll try to get it under extended warranty, which is what i have. BTW, my car seems to drive fine except for the metal scrapping noises.
But obviously the warranty people don't want to pay for it, so they want a complete tear down of the diff to "figure out" what the exact issue is.
My question is: Should I worry that the dealer won't be able to rebuild the diff correctly. I don't want to have it dismantled and then not work right after the rebuild, in the case that warranty won't cover it.
Thanks for you help.

For the quoted $4000 price the dealer is talking about the whole ditterential assembly. I wouldn't worry about them messing it up because that is just a remove and replace job. If they will cover it under warranty, go for it. If not, take your car to another dealer for a second opinion. You can buy a new differential on line for less than $2700 and a competent mechanic with a lift should be able to change it out in a couple of hours.

Does this mean the dealer performed all the service in the past too?
The wrong kind of diff oil will shorten
the life of the diff IMO.
Do you have any records of what was done to the car (service), at what milage and what they used?
Let us know what you / they find.

And so...they torn it apart. The oil that came out was completely black. There were small amount of chips..very small...that can be felt on the teeth.
I did my schedule services, including changing the lsd fluid on time, at this dealer.
After seeing the oil, I'm thinking whoever did the fluid change put in the wrong stuff!
Anyhow, they're waiting for the adjuster from warranty to investigate. I'll let you know if I get a new one. (I hope)
Thanks!
