Mess with the seat position sensor at your own risk. You are modifying an SRS component function, and may be hurt as a result.
No decent shop that has to deal with liability would touch this kind of mod.

This mod does remove the ability of the airbags to "soft fire" or smart function when the seat at or near all the way forward. Given that most folks who are buying these rails are larger, I can't see an issue unless the car is subsequently purchased by someone very small. In that case, they'll get an airbag that fires just like all the ones from 99 to 05?
Shops that install aftermarket steering wheels without airbags and without a properly revised harness are the non-reputables, but we see it all the time.

As long as the person that does this is aware they are changing how the SRS system works and the consequences it doesn't matter to me.
I don't want anything to do with modding a seat position sensor which could turn into a lawsuit against me or my shop, if the car is in an accident. Especially if the car is sold and the next owner has no idea the seat position sensor input has been removed from the SRS controller's inputs.

Doesn't the SRS position sensor simply detach from the stock rails? So you would be able to replace the stock rails with a functioning SRS sensor.
I'm with you Slows2k. I wouldn't expect a shop to take on the liability. I would have to assume the risk myself. That's the man reason I haven't bought the rails yet.

Guys, just think for a minute how the system works before proclaiming the world is flat.
Simply put, you are making the drivers seat airbag function like all other s2k's.
I think the real key is to know and understand what you're doing.
Money..., good point about personal responsibilty. Like I said, all mods are inherently problematic should something catastrophic happen. You guys must be lawyers just chomping at the bit to chase an ambulance. I find for me, the benefit far surpasses my need for a slow bag if I should decide to drive with the seat and me jammed all the way forward.
Believe me that in my 48 years experiance building cars/trucks/cycles, I would never do something that would put me or someone else in peril by design. I think removing the slowbag at full forward seat is just removing a benign and moot function....that really belongs only on the passenger seat to protect toddlers.
