Default Lower Rev limit when low on gas?

So I was low on gas (no ticks left on the gauge) one day and was going to filler up and decided get a final vtec out of the car.

As I was flooring it, the engine didn't go any higher the 7k. Just kept bouncing off of it as if it was 9k.

After I filled up the problem was gone.

Is this normal? Ever happen to anyone else?

No more gas, so you decide to floor it?

Isnt our fuel pump lubricated by the gasoline in the tank? Hmmmm that would suck to be gettin the car all hot and what not when the pump isnt lubricated, and melt it..........

this happened to my friend in a 90's camaro RS. Idk if it was fuel line or not, but it was some sort of fuel system that was lubricated by the gasonline..and when they were on low, and in houston...in 105 degree weather it melted....

It's possible that there was so little gas in the tank, that when you floored it, the gas moved away from the pick up for the fuel pump. This would momentarily starve the motor. This is a well known problem among the autocrossers. It feels just like the hard rev limiter when it happens.

its all a pressurized system if u dont have enough gas u cant force enough gas to flow for the amount needed at high rpms but u can at lower rpms. every complete rotation of the engine ur car sucks in and blows out 2 liters of air and has to match that with gas of some sort. now i'm not math genius but at 7k rpms thats a lot of air and gas per second. and when u have close to non it wont be able to supply it.

u basically have less then a gallon when that happens.

I sure hope your engine doesn't rotate but your crankshaft.

Besides.. when a 2 liter, four cylinder, four stroke, internal combustion engine's crankshaft makes 1 revolution, in theory only 1 liter of air is sucked in.
The crankshaft needs to make 2 revolutions to complete a full four stroke cycle for al four cylinders.
Suck - squeeze - BANG! - blow.
