Low Profile Jack Question
Sorry search is not working or at least for me. Anyway I have seen plenty of posts on low profile jscks. Do all of them work without having to drive up on 2Xs, Etc.? I was looking at the one from Harbor Freight or Northern Tools ($70-90). Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks,
TGO

There is one jack that I know of that will get to the front jacking point. It is about 450 + shipping.
I personally have a Harbor Freight jack and I left it from the side point. In fact, it you jack it from the rear point on the side and lift high enough, you can change both tires on that side at once.

Like Stratocaster said, if you are jacking up by the front central jacking point, only a very few, very expensive jacks will reach. However, if you are talking only about the side jacking points, then there are lots of relatively inexpensive floor jacks that will work.
Almost all jacks will give you the minimal height. Just measure your ground clearance and determine the shortest point and get a jack that will fit under that measurement. Even if you get one that is within a 1/2 inch higher, it'll work. You just have to manual lift up on the fender to get it under.

Stratocaster/Xviper,
Thanks - wasn't in the mood to spend $450+ on a jack (would rather be cheap and use the 2X method if I really want to use the central jack points). Using the central jack points was my goal.
One good thing is I have access to hydraulic lifts on base (stationed at a military base). Only $2 hour to use and they do make life easy.
Stratocaster - still with Rick's? purchased a Ti Voodoo shift from you all back when I had my first S2K MY02. Long story but sold it in 04 and had withdrawl symptoms for two years. So much so that my wife (who will not part with money to save her life) noticed and said "if you want another S2000 go ahead and get it". She did not have to say that twice. Needless to say the first two additions to my MY06 S2K were a Ti Voodoo knob and floor mats.

I have the Harbor Freight racing jack and also the Costco jack. Both will not reach under the front. My car is lowered by about an 1". The Costco jack is a much nicer jack and has a lower profile in the front. Unfortunately, it can't reach the front jacking point. I have been using the HF jack to jack the side a little and then use the Costco jack in front. Works great and both jacks are cheap.

I got a 3ton floor jack that has that metal 1" square thick plate that is used to lift the car . It's removable but I'm wondering if it's safe to just jack the car without that 1" thick plate. The problem is I have to remove the plate so the jack can slide underneath the car. Anyone know what I am talking about?
