IME, it comes down to proper tools, space, time, and experience. You'll prolly need a fair amount of all --- to do a good job.

Good luck, with your decision!

Has the engine been worked on before?

Do not even think about it. Motor is going to have to come out and that takes a decent amount of space Cleanliness is top priority on an open motor...which would be impossible without a dedicated clean work area.

You can definitely drop the pan and take out the bearings in a parking garage, but the question is what if from there you find out that you need to remove the pistons, head, or something else. Then you are screwed.

I did that job in my private home garage and it is something I never want to tackle again, some parts of the job took the help of an assistant (jimmying the tranny in and out), I had to buy a cherry picker and a few other tools specifically for this job. . Doing it in a public parking garage would be a nightmare, I don't suppose the other people using the garage would want to see this kind of repair going on inside the garage, plus it would be too dusty, windy, dirty IMO.

Chances are you have some bearing damage right now. The way bearing damage goes is that it will come back to haunt you sometime down the road unexpectedly. A little nick of the crank and bearing surface will start to get worse and worse without showing any obvious signs or making any odd noises. Then one day it will all go to crap on you when you aren't suspecting it, and it will cause other engine damage when that occurs. Get it fixed now before it gets more expensive.

Also be aware that the price of engines has gone up since last time you got one installed. Now it is like four or five grand for a JDM.

Not to be an a## but your oil light "flashed briefly several times" and you did not stop?

Well, I have very little of all the above, so that pretty much settles it.

I can't speak for most of its life before it was installed in the car last year, but the only work that's been done on it since I've had it in my possession is Billman upgraded the banjo bolts and retainers, and installed a baffled oil pan.

Yup, I was able to get one fairly inexpensive last year, but maybe that is why I'm in this predicament. I'm hoping to get an F22C for around $3k this time, but they're hard to come by without a million miles on them.

Yes, I did a stupid thing. I came off track immediately when it happened, but it never showed up again after that. Everyone seemed to think it was a wiring issue, so I figured maybe it was ok.
