If you can avoid it, don't mix brands of oil. It has something to do with the propritary additives that may vary between brands and could upset the intended lube qualities that each oil mfg. specifically wanted for their oil. This would not be a big deal for short term use but it is always comforting to know that the oil in the crancase is the same brand.

Also, if your burning 1 quart every 1000 miles, you have a issue with your car. Unless those 1000 miles are track miles
per almost all honda techs, the honda motors with vtec normally burn about a quart of oil for every 1000 miles driven. most commonly in dohc applications after the motor has about 30k miles on it. this is normal to be burning that much oil and it doesnt mean you have anything wrong with your motor. if you start seeing other problems such as smoke out the exhaust under load as well, then you might want to reevaluate and consider doing a compression test to see if you need new piston rings. or possibly your valve seals are getting dry and worn.

also like it has been said before mobile 1 tends to burn in any dohc vtec motor. so try to use another brand oil i wouldnt try another viscocity though. the s2000 calls for 10w30 and it had gone through quite a bit of r&d from honda before they put that out im sure. they took 5 years from the point of concept to production to produce this car. so im sure they took almost every thought into consideration before putting out specs for the car.

:update:

I think I lost around 4 qt of oil in around 1000 miles of daily commuting. Theres 1/4 of a qt left in the engine... I'm doing an oil consumption test by the dealer so I'm not supposed to add oil until Thurs (when their tech comes in) or it defeats the purpose of the test. x.x

Did they tell you you could keep driving it until their tech gets in to look at it? Did they tell you to drive it in to their shop? If so get that in writing.

Edit - is there 1/4 of a quart showing on the dipstick or 1/4 of a quart total in the engine?

They said it'll be fine until Thurs (I'm not driving today and tomorrow and Honda is 1-2 miles away).

They said 1/4 quart in the engine.
The stick shows less than half from the bottom of the stick to the L marker.
Should I just add 1 qt to the engine as a safety measure? I don't want to mess up the test but I don't want the engine to literally, die.

:edit: spelling

Are they going to replace the motor under warranty or something on your 2002?

The repair bill will be far greater then buying a ap2 motor and dropping that in instead.
