How does one "cruise" in first gear?
Anyway..
If you are not moving and press the clutch to engage 1st gear you might hear that "clunck" and is normal.
That noise is the mainshaft coming to a sudden stop by engaging 1st gear.
Like aero3685 said, wait 2 seconds or so and you will not hear anything.
Shifting from 1st to 2nd at low speed gives a bit of a "clunck" too, mine does that, always has and is normal IMO.
So darkfx, this means your car is fixed?

the noise coming from my car is definitely not "normal" and it is definitely not the clutch. Since my last post it has gotten considerably worse. It sucks because I work so many hours running my business I haven't gotten time to get it to honda... I'm worried

Just got my car back from honda today. It turns out that it was the TSB for the axle bolt needing to be re-torqued. I got great service from the honda dealership and even got some hp tips from the head mechanic.
My car is now "new" again and it was $0 out of my pocket. Needless to say, I'm really happy.

s2k have a clunky diff especialy the earler ones ,put ur clutch in when ur turnin and breakin it should clunk bad thats the gear box,my first s2 did that bad all the time and it wasnt the diff cause i changed it at least 3 times .
my new s2 doesnt do that clunk at all and the box is much tighter, also cheak the tail shaft .
EDIT
Your post adds nothing. The problem has been diagnosed as the axle nuts not being torqued to the correct specification and the fix being to take it to a dealer for free service. It has nothing to do with the transmission or "cheaking the tail shaft" (whatever that means). Sometimes it's better to listen than to talk.

So with my 02' I can go in the dealership and have this done? I am out of warranty
I get this clunk when I get on the gas after changing gears.

I have an '02 with no warranty. $0.00 to fix it.
When you go to the dealership tell them what you learned here so they don't have to spend the whole day on the car like they did mine. They actually spent 6 hours on my car and were on the phone with honda for a long time diagnosing.

they even tried taking my wheels off and put stocks on because they are 3 piece and thought they might have been making the noise. lol

Did they give that service a TSB number or code? I can't find it in the FAQ. I just want to go there and hand them the paper. Thanks man
I've got like 3 friends locally that are about to go to the dealership for the same problem now. None of theirs are as bad as mine was. But mine started out very faint.
On another note, get it fixed soon. I've heard that this problem can damage the wheel bearing.
