Loud tick coming from the head
I am hearing a loud tick on a s2000 from the front of the head. I hear it most at the front of the valve cover. I dont think it is from the chain tension as the chain makes a more consistent noise from my experience. This has a loud tick at idle. I comes every 2 to 3 seconds at idle and is consistent when the gas is applied. Would out of spec valves cause such a loud ticking noise? I did a compression test and they were so so. 180 in all cylinders and 155 in number 3. I will try to post a video soon.

Do you have an aftermarket header, my Mugen was thin walled and you could hear the exhaust valves tick at idle and even a few feet away form the car on the passenger side.
Have you had a valve adjustment in the past, if not it might be a good reason to open up the valvecover and do one, and check your retainers and other parts.

It is a turbo s2k. I just put a motor in it. And I did not do a valve adjust on it. I will most likely do it tomorrow. It is always good to start from the basics and work your way up.

Best place to start, if it is an ap1 check the retainers and make sure none of them are cracked and valves sunken.
