Loud, Strange Noise When Letting off the Gas???
Hi,
I am in the process of finally getting my dream car. I test drove a 2001 yesterday with 40K kept in excellent condition, never raced, etc... The guy is the original owner and has all the records and everything. There was only this one problem. When I drove it and the would just let it off the gas to cruise or slow down, a loud strange noise was coming from somewhere. He said that he went and had it checked out when he first got it and the dealership said there was nothing wrong and everything was normal. Now I tried searchinf for some info on the net but couldn't find anything so I figured I could ask some of ya'll seeing what it oculd be before buying this car.
Thanks
Sohail

there is a service TSB 054 about a buzz sound during deceleration.
It requires replacing the Clutch and pressure plate. Id have them do the throwout berring as well.
I had the TSB done on MY 20001 and it felt totally better and the buzz sound went a way.
Just find a reputable dealer.
Mine was done under warranty.
Have the current owner get it fixed before you buy the car and show you proof
Good Luck

Make sure you get it for a good price. After all it is used and dopping a lot of cash for something without a warranty versus financing a new one could be a bad decision in the long run
Keep in mind you can get a new 03 for around 30K plus tax and title if you shop around.

if only you would know how much i be getting it, cuz it's a real steal and i've been checkin around for a while now. let's just say that it's under $20K and for the same car is selling around $23K to $25K around the atlanta area. i would never want to finance cuz i would rather go put cash down and not worry about making payments on a new car when this has already dropped it's value.
but thanks anyway for your opinion.
plus, the car is still under a fully transferrable warranty. either its the 3 yr 60K mi or I think he got the extended, if there is one for up to 100K mi.
