Default Loud grinding noise and leaking oil

Hello all,

i own a 03 s2000 with 26k on it. 3 months ago i swaped gear (4.57) and reinforced rear diff with a local guy. THis morning while driving to work, the grinding got extremely lound whenever i release the gas pedal, i stop to check and see/smell oil/fluit around the rear wheels area. Can you guy tell me what could it be? and what kink of cost for fixing?

i don't drive the car hard, no cluch dump.

THank you for any info.

Possibly your drain plug isn't on tight and all your fluid has leaked out causing rear diff damage. That would probably account for the grinding noise and the puddle on the ground. Is there a puddle on your garage floor?

Sometimes, people lose the drain bolt washer in the oil pan and don't go find it to put it back on or put a new one back on because they never saw it in the first place. Also, when the gear work was done, the output shaft seals may have been damaged and that's where the fluid is leaking from. What's it smell like? Sulfer (rotten eggs)? If it's the plug washer, this is an easy fix. If it's the seal, not so easy.
I suggest you check the fluid level in the diff ASAP.

Than you, how do i check the fluit level? and does the noise mean my diff is going to blow or it's just simple that it's low on fluid?

You'll have to unscrew the fill bolt and still your finger in. The level should be right at the bottom of the fill hole. This must be done when the car is level, so you may need a lift.
Since I can't hear this noise, it hard to say if it's normal or not.
