Default Loud click coming from rear of car

I have had this issue for the last several months and I guess everything seems to be running fine but the sound worries me. It mainly happens after I start the car and am going into 1st gear or reverse (esp up an incline) but even is happening after the car has been warmed up. For instance if I am pulling out into traffic quick and let out the clutch quick and give it a decent amount of gas. Car has 88K miles if that helps.

Try to re-torque your axle nuts to 220ft lbs. I have a loud clicking from my passenger rear of my s2k. It would only do it every once in a while like getting up my driveway, but now it does a couple clicks everytime I take off normally from a stoplight. I torqed my axle nuts to 220ft lbs and it didnt help me at all, so idk what to do now. I would hate to start replacing parts and it not be it.

You could at least minimize the culprit options by halfway setting the emergency brake when pulling up into the driveway to see if the brakes are the problem clicking noise. Anything you can do to effect the sound will help narrow it down. Otherwise it will be somewhere in the driveline. Which driveline component? I dunno.

I re torqued my axle nuts to 240 lbs but it didnt solve the problem, I ended up buying a new axle nut ($5) for both sides, got a breaker bar and a 185 lbs friend to jump a few times on it, problem solved, no more annoying clicking

I believe I would have increased the toque in higher (known)increments instead of just tightening the piss out of it.There is a point at which over-torquing starts breaking things and stripping threads.

Well so far perhaps. Not sure what your final torque ended up being ,but I've twisted a lot of wrenches in my time and know for certain that there is a point at which you will begin stretching the threads and damaging things which may require repalcement on next service. If not ...then consider yourself lucky.

Is this something that needs to be taken care of immediately? Or is it just an annoyance but not necessarily a major issue?

I wouldnt worry much about it. My car actually started doing this a few thousand miles ago as well, as did the Lexus i owned before hand did it as well.

After looking into both of my cars after they started, i found that it was the shims on the brakes that were shifting due to worn pads. It was basically letting me know that its getting that time to change my pads. I changed my pads, and poof, it went away. Hope this helps
