Here are some pointers and tips. First off, what kind of performance mods do ya got? Second do you abuse the car? Reason I ask is cause I've heard with performance stage clutches, it is harmful to transmission and differentials. How does the clutch effort feel? You could take a quick peak by lifting the car, removing slave and looking inside to see if anythings bad. Your clutch might be gone. Some people get on it when the clutch is cold and they blow their friction disk. I thought suggesting some fluid changes would do but this sounds more like clutch/transmission problems. I definitely wouldn't drive it anymore.. you don't want to be replacing a transmission. I feel like its the clutch, either just snapped/broke part of it.

So I think best thing to do is talk a look at it. Any unusual amount of clutch dust, smell? Mileage? Driving it normal or spirited?

the banging noise you hear when putting it into 1st -- try holding down the clutch a bit longer before putting it into 1st

Clutch master or slave may be failing.

Checked your clutch resevoir? Make sure it's topped off. I'd go ahead and replace the fluid while you're at it. It's quick and easy and you can check the slave while you're down there.
