Default Loss of power after standing still?

Hi All,

This is my first post so hello to everyone...

I bought my S2000 about four weeks ago and all was good until I started hitting peak hour traffic? It seems that after standing still for a while when I go to take off it it loses power and takes off like its a 800cc panda!!!! This only lasts for a few seconds but I am now worried I'm gonna break down in traffic...

The engine is not overheating and the fans come on and keep the temp ok..

The car itself has done 24000 miles and is due a service very soon.. I've just checked the oil and that was low so that is topped up... It wierd as its fine driving round in normal traffic.

Any help would be appreciated...

Oh dont know if this is anything but I have been putting in normal unleaded most of the time?? I do try and put in the Optimax when I can...

Thanks
Col

Its called engine bog, and its attributable to the air intake sucking in hot air from not moving. The car's not overheating, but the air is hotter when sitting in traffic - heat builds up in the engine bay and on the road. If you're running the air conditioner, its worse, by the way, but its not doing any damage to the car.

Yep. Also known as heat soak.

Thanks.... was really worried for a bit there.... That makes a lot of sense!!!

I have seen articles on here about air intake modificatins, dont know if these are related or not but will research this...

Again thanks for the pointer!

That would be a PITA if you drove the car year round though in an area that gets cold. You have to remove the ball in winter.

A simple snorkel will help the problem. Or you can just ignore it.

I've always been skeptical of how a few degrees change can have a real effect on intake air, but those posters swear by it. Personally, I'd just get a snorkel, cooling plate, or know what it is and live with it.

I've been driving around with this for 3 weeks now.

Yesterday, after driving for a while @ highway speeds, I took an exit and ended up waiting for an open bridge - that was allready closing.
So I kept the engine running and payed close attention to how it behaved driving away after 1-2 minutes.
It was sunny, 22C, light wind, Berlina car
No heat soak whatsoever.
11 euro's in parts & labour

Its still possible to "bog" the engine if you get the clutch/throttle thing wrong.
Especially going back & forth in parking lots.
That's just driver error IMO.
