Default Losing Power blamed on bad gas?

My car has 10,000 miles on it, and at about 5000+ it is losing power. It actually lurchs, and feels like the engine is cutting out, and is getting worse. The dealer said it is fuel contamination, and told me to put in techron and drive through a tank of gas. That did not work, and the only option now, according to the dealer, is to remove and clean the gas tank, at my expense since it is not covered under warranty. I have never had a "bad gas" issue in all my years of driving, and the problem feels like something worse. Any comments?
