Looking for some help - engine noise
Hi all,
Looking for some wisdom if possible thank you in advance for any help.
2000 S2ki
All stock
163000km
Mobil 1 synth oil
Maintenance up to date
Took my car for an evening of lapping yesterday. My first time ever being on the track. I push the car harder than it has ever been pushed.
Issue: halfway through the evening after the car was very hot I noticed that upon a hard acceleration I could hear what sounded like a high-pitched cricket chirping coming from what seemed to be the engine bay. The trip would increase in speed as the engine revs up. The sound was prominent in third gear but is there in all gears especially above 5500 RPM when pushing. I believe that the sound is even there in neutral when it is hot and I rev the engine.
Once I let the car cool down for a half an hour I took the vehicle out for a drive and the sound was gone. I could not get it to come back. It seems to only be there under extreme heat.
Any ideas as to if this is normal or not? Has anybody experienced this? Any tips on diagnosing this? Should I be worried about this? Any fixes?
Thanks again!

Sounds like a serp belt pully bearing to me. Try removing belt tension. Engine off, slide belt off, and hand spin each pully. See if any feel gritty or make any noise.
If it all checks out, wait until next time it makes this noise, then quickly pit and redo test above.
