We tried it with an 02 ECU into a 00. We taped the keys together but it would not start. There is something else that we couldn't figure out.

I also remember the manual saying something about using a duplicate key instead of one with the immobilizer.

THREAD RESURRECTION!

So I'm interested in the same thing. I've heard that the 02 ECU produces about 10 more hp and I'm wondering what it would take to do the swap into an 01. If I can spend $75 and get 10 ponies that's probably the most economical mod I can too. Thanks.

Yes it is a direct swap, but you will have to get your keys programmed to the new ECU so it will start. The dealership should be able to do this for you for around $100.

Thanks for the quick reply. Is it really a decent power gain? The search function is so bad it's hard to find decent threads on if this has been done as well as conclusions made.

No problem, and 02-03's usually do dyno around 10hp higher than 00-01's. IIRC, they run a tad bit leaner resulting in a slight gain in power.
