Longest Lasting Caliper Paint
#51
Great ideas, would the sanding, grinding, and painting be made easier by removing the caliper and brackets? I'm also thinking of removing the rotors, prepping and painting the area just around the hub area to give it a clean look. I know the rotors are going to carry more heat than the calipers, I plan to paint all parts black so I shouldn't have a color turning issue but would apprec any input from Rajun, Roxy, Bionic.
If removed any special precautions other than maybe taping off rubber boots and seals?
Awesome work guys!!!!
Now this is making me think about doing the same on other suspension arms. It's a sickness I tell ya.

rajun,
Since we're pretty close, if you don't mind I might have to bug you to grind down my caliper's casting marks sometime. When it all comes down to it, a smooth surface before painting these calipers makes all the difference. And yours look the best that I've seen done DIY-style.

Well, sanding the caliper by hand could help the paint finish nicer. The kicker is, good prep-work makes the final product look stellar.
rajun, do you have any time on the weekends later in August or in September that'd work for you?

I used the Dupont caliper paint with the brush and it's holding up pretty well. Only 6 months of use, but several track days along with the Dragon and Rt. 26. Also, on the street, I drive my car pretty "spiritedly."

What ever you do dont buy the caliper paint that Kragen Auto parts sells. Not sure what the brand is but it was the only one on the shelf when I went in. It's a kit that includes cleaner, paint, tape, and a brush. It looked likea good deal but after 2 weeks the paint has already started chipping. I sanded, put 5 coats on and waited 1/2 hour before each coat.....I'm just a little upset because I spent all Saturday doing this project.

I finished my caliper project and went ahead and created a DIY thread.
