B.Money, back to your original question, which paint lasts the longest. The one thing that's holding me back is having the paint burn at a track event. I'd hate to invest the time, effort, and the money just to have it look like crap after a fun racing day.
I've heard a few folks have good luck with the G2 paint holding up at mild track days with stock pads (but I haven't read many of those tests/reviews). Does anyone know if G2 (or another brand) stands up consistantly to track time with the stock (or near stock) braking system.
yup. rajun's gray also works, but the point remains, skip the colors when painting oem calps. they're oem, so making them stand out is like saying, "hey LOOK!!! my s2000 is a HONDA!!!" duh. they all are. get my point? going for clean though is always good, and calipers that fade into the rest of the car and look polished with out drawing attention add to that.
Definitely agree with the discrete color scheme. I also think that putting the S2000 on the caliper looks a bit redundant. Unless you've shaved the emblems off the side of the car, you'll have two S2000 logos within 3 feet of each other.
Again, if the paint could withstand some light to moderate track time, I'd be game for doing this. But if it's just going to burn/bubble, then I'd rather not bother.
You should prepare the calipers as well as you can. Mine were grinded smooth with a dremell, like rajun asian's. Then 3 coats of G2 black caliper paint. Then clearcoated them. This took about 6-8 hours to do. Waited a few days then applied the arched S2000 stickers that I got from Decalgirl.com
That sucks that decalgirl does not make them anymore. Good luck guys. Post some pictures when your done!
The calipers got dirty if the few days before I put the decals on.
I did take the calipers off the car, but not the brake lines. Wasn't easy but it worked.
I was thinking about sanding them down, but it is to much work.
So I used my air brush with a little thinner and sprayed the hell out of them and brushed 2 coats on as well!
When I was done, I took the duplicor spray can that you use to clean the caliper, I used brake cleaner instead, and spraeyd them down after it had 2 brush coats and 2 sray coats.
It really leveled the paint and when it dried it looks perfect!
