Long oil change intervals and deposit control = forever engine?
We have been discussing a couple of topics lately:
1) Are longer oil change intervals really OK?
2) Do you really need fuel additives?
BG Products has been running a test on a 1993 Mazda. It has been running 15,000 miles on their synlube, and regular doses of one of their fuel additives, to achieve "Total Deposit Control".

The engine claim is that it has essentially experienced zewro wear.
Mercedes and BMW cars using the approved synoils and the oil change algorithms regular go 15-18k before an oil change is recommended.

BTW...
I remember SCC magazine dynoed stock Civic with 100k mile and its HP was about 10hp more than stock overall. It was due to carbon deposit causing increased compression. free HP!

The wife's BMW 328is (the 2.8L engine) took 6.8 quarts. It has the same maintenance interval as all other BMW made at the time.
My personal opinion on long drain intervals is that a good synoil can go the distance (say, 10-15k miles). However, I'm not so confident that the oil filter can. So I'll stick with my 5000 mile oil change intervals.

The one number that sticks in my head is 11.6 quarts. This is the oil capacity for the new SLR.
