Was your wheel stuck? If you can, move your car forward or back like a foot and try again. Sounds simple, but it could happen.

Maybe the connections are loose and the cold made the contacts contract enough to loose power. I know my '01 is hard to turn right in the cold. I'm pulling the rack today and tearing it down for the same reason coincidentally.

Your power steering fluid is definitely frozen.

Sounds more complex than just cold PS fluid. I've had my PS fluid get really thick in negative and single digit temps, but that makes the EPS light come on and you lose power steering until it warms up, but you can still turn the wheel and drive with a little increased effort.

^^ Correct.

Must just be too damn cold there.

Interested to hear if you find a solution though.

So here's an update, today was above freezing, I believe 34 degrees-ish.

The steering wheel was just fine, no sticking whatsoever which adds to the freezing theory.

A suggestion was that maybe the tires were stick to the road? I tried rolling the car back and forth a few feet. If the tires were frozen to the road, that should have solved the problem but it did not.

Well anyways I'll update you guys further as news becomes available.

Here are some other posts made by other owners who all have had a similar problem:

The commonality I noticed between all these owners was that they all owned AP1's .

My dealer charges me to replace it at each oil change.
