$20 for a 5 quart jug from Wal-Mart.

Regardless of oil choice, just keep an eye on your oil level. AP1 models tend to burn some oil between oil changes. I know my 2002 model did. 1 quart per 4000 miles.

I am not sure on Amsoil prices but like the above poster mentioned jugs are only 20$, single quarts run 6-8$

90crvtec - The car wasn't only not VTECing, it was also very sluggish accelerating. It felt to me like it had gone into limp mode. I talked to multiple people about it after we reached our destination and that was the general consensus.

Well, the ECU doesn't have any way to sense the oil level, so if the ECU went into limp mode it was due to something else, like (possibly) several short term losses of oil pressure, overheating, etc. When the oil level is low, hard acceleration can cause what is left in the pan to slosh away from the pickup causing short term loss of oil pressure, and that loss will cause VTEC to disengage, so maybe that's what you were experiencing. Without being there and seeing the problem first hand it's impossible to be sure, but it could not have been the ECU going into limp mode because it detected low oil level. That's quite impossible on early cars that don't have an oil level sensor.

The ECU isn't smart enough to realize that your dumb ass drove on public roads at excessive speeds for many miles and resulted in a massive burning of oil therefore, it won't retard timing (although in your case, it should).
Harsh.
