After talking with Sean at HorsepowerFreaks, the AEM EMS does a great job of making the use of a dry setup safe. Perhaps you might want to include this piece in your setup. I, however, do not have first-hand experience.

It does significantly increase the cost of a nitrous setup. Despite the added safety I dont think it would be worth it to me.

Would a wet kit help defend against detonation?

ok im new so i dont no how much u listen to me but i have a 02 s2k with 38k miles on it and i have had my nos dry kit with the 75 shot pill for 4 months and have had no problems but the first thing u need to get is a fuel pump b/c the factory one doesnt cut it and all u got to do is cheack your plugs every once and while for any damage O and if u dont have any experience with nitrous get a throttle activated switch for a little bit more safety

Yes, I planned on a running Modifry's RPM activation switch, along with IK24 plugs. I also was only going to jet for 50 horses so I didnt plan on running the stock pump, but I also have a NOS fuel pressure safety switch to shut the system off if pressure drops.

The factory pump is good to around 350 hp...I see no reason why he should upgrade fuel pumps...

well on the fuel pump i was told it was a good i idea to get a new fuel pump b/c there not as reliable as a up graded one hey a fuel pump upgrade is only $$135$$ thats not as bad as a new bottom end

I could also run through a quarter of my tire tread, trade them in and replace them with new tires for $200. The old tires aren't as reliable and it's only $200, and that's cheaper than a wrecked car, so why not do it? Because there's still no need...

If it makes you feel better, go for it, but why spend money in places it doesn't need to go. $135 will get you a god ways towards a guage of some sort, and that's a worthwhile investment (say, a UEGO?).

with your intention there is no need to change the fuel pump. In excess of 80hp at the wheels then changing would be preferred since the fp would be increase significantly through a dry setup or injected through a wet setup.

A wet kit will not prevent detonation any more than dry. detonation is controlled by adding more fuel, retarding timing, fuel octane level, temerature, plug type, compression ratio, and many more factors. Both wet and dry kits allow you to adjust the amount of fuel. Dry kits do this by increasing fuel pressure by varying amounts. The stock fuel pump may support 350 hp but this is at stock fuel pressure levels. Dry nitrous kits practically double your fuel pressure when the nitrous is injected and the efficiency of the stock pump becomes less desirable at that pressure. You can visit www.apeusa.com for plots of fuel flow at different pressures for different pumps. Good luck.

So maybe a wet kit is the better choice, considering I will be running the RPM switch. Also, is there any MSD unit that can allow me to retard timing with the stock ECU. Would an Apexi VAFC2 be a good idea for its knock indication?
