Leaking oil - what are the major known causes?

I have more information. I checked under the car in the garage before I started the car to go to work this morning, still not a single drop of oil on the ground. Then, I started the car and pulled out of the garage and what do you know, I have a small puddle. So it looks like starting the car makes some of the oil leak out. Will try to get it on a lift when I can.

I know this is going to sound like a far stretch but I've had a bad oil filter on my truck before. It would not leak oil while the engine was off, then after starting the engine it would drip very slightly. I had to leave it running while trying to figure out where it was dripping from. The filter had a small defect around that base causing it to leak.

I just had a car here from the dealer. They overtightened the drain plug and split the oilpan. It wouldnt have happened if they changed the 2 cent washer. It was thin as paper.
