Default leaking fluid from rear end

Got home from having my rear window tinted and pulled the S into the garage and noticed a drop on the driveway and it seems to be greyish purplish in color. I reach under and touched the diff housing and there is fluid on there. I wonder if it was overfilled and blowing out the vent or maybe I have a leak somewhere any issues with the S in this area? I will be taking it to the dealer for them to check. This blows not even 200 miles on the car.

That sounds like the description of the OEM fill in the diff. Definitely have it looked at by the dealership. Can you tell whether it is coming from the drain or fill holes? If the dealer changes the lube oil, make sure they don't replace it with a Honda diff fluid that is not GL-5 rated. That has happened to several members of this board before and ruined their diffs in a very short period of time.

definitely sounds like diff fluid.. the OEM crap is grey, and smells like ASS. Leaking diffs is not generally a problem, especially with 200 miles. Good thing is you're under warranty, and any potential problem can be fixed! As mentioned above, if necessary, make sure they replace with a correctly rated fluid. I recommend doing a search an finding a good fluid (mobil 1 75w90 for example), and tell them to put that in after explaining that it exceeds the specs for the diff.

Since I have seen this topic covered before I became an S2K owner I was aware. So to be for sure the correct fluid is SAE90 GL5 Hypoid gear oil. What has Honda typically used to screw things up so I know when I go back to the dealer.

Thanks Swiftoy

Read the oil journals. There is a link at the top of the UTH forum. You will learn a lot. No search required.

Just came back from the dealer and the inner diff seal is defective. That blows only 220 miles on the car. They will have it fixed Monday and they do use the correct diff fluid.

The dealership's I have been to have bulk 80w-90 GL-5 gear oil. There is nothing wrong with using the 80w-90 GL-5 in the S2000.
