What would the extra $40 (assuming I replace both mounts) get me that the OEM parts won't? Basically what's the benefit?

Benefit is annoying vibration and buzzing that you didnt have before The OEM oil filled, soft mounts dampen these type of noises. It makes the car feel like a $30k car instead of a $1k civic. Anyone who needs these aftermarket mounts for performance needs should learn to heel-toe and DRIVE SMOOTHER
Get OEM.

P.S. I'm glad to hear it's common and not a huge issue (Honda mech made it sound like it was from horrible abuse or something from the previous owner).

After consulting the Service Manual to identify the part, a quick search landed me right at this post! Thanks S2ki
Now I wonder if this is the reason why I've been hearing an increasing buzz noise coming from the rear? I've only noticed this leak on my garage floor this morning which lead me to lift her up and check...

My was shot when I bought my car, I stuck a used one on there, Billman is right, heel and toe + rev matching is your friend. I don't granny my car at all, but I am smooth when it comes to downshifting etc. So far after 18k miles it's still holding up.

Speak of the devil mine just blew up again, oh well time to stop screwing around and order a brand new one instead of going used again.
