Late clutch release on pedal

So I had a problem where my clutch was slipping and my clutch pedal was soft. I drained the fluid which was charcoal black and put new fluid in. I noticed that it firmed the pedal up a little. I followed the normal break in procedures of 500 miles and noticed that the clutch pedal still has a late engagement when I take off. The car grabs now, so I know the clutch was bad before I put the new one in. What would cause a late clutch pedal engagement that lets out almost when the pedal is let all the way out? The clutch is a competition clutch stage 2.

You probably need to adjust the freeplay. It seems like 95% of "clutch problem" threads on this forum stem from freeplay issues.
The clutch is supposed to engage when the pedal is a bit above the center point of travel, by design. If you want it to engage when the pedal is closer to the floor, you want to dial in MORE freeplay. The opposite if you feel its engaging too close to the floor.

The clutch only has about 800 miles on it. I noticed after install that the pedal was noticeably softer. After about 400 miles it firmed up a bit. I will look into how to adjust freeplay. I may have either a faulty clutch or replaced the clutch and flywheel for no reason at all. Either way at 100k miles I figured it was due for one. On break in I drove normally and never once drove it hard. I followed the lube instructions on the paper. So now I am afraid it is something else.
