Default Last step in rebuild process. WONT GO INTO GEAR!

Straight to the point, putting my car back together but i gotta fix the transmission first. It wont go into fifth gear. It wont grind or click, its litterally like there is no gear there it wont go into the position it just hits a wall. Every other gear is fine, no grinding, Very notchy as always. Just fifth gear is like NOT THERE. just like if you try to go into reverse without pressing down, EXACTLY LIKE THAT. Now i assume its not a synchro because it doesnt grind, so im thinking something is wrong with the gear alignment or shaft. i have no idea.. but i was gonna take it apart and replace each of the fifth gear component rings. DUNNO> Pls help trying to get this done THIS WEEK. thanks guys. Suggestions or experience, anything pls

Well hell... How much of it was apart? What happened? What was fixed?...

It could be something very quick and eazy or it could something that is going to put the car down for a day, a couple of days, or even weeks... It could be a free thing or cost you $$$$.

We just don't know and can only quess. It could be be almost anything.

Good Luck getting it fixed.

the car is in pieces. started assembling the motor saturday. the transmission is on the garage floor by itself. when it was in the car it wouldnt get in to fifth gear. so since its out of the car i can quickly rebuild it and replace the shaft/gear/rings or whatever is broken. just asking for suggestion or information on what could cause this issue with a TRANSMISSION. im not sure you read the whole post pwrmkr cause other parts of the car have nothing to do with a transmission having trouble with only one gear. does anyone have any idea? i seem to know more about this than who im asking help from lol there used to be pros on this site

Wait! What?

Shoulden't this ( DIY: Rebuilding your transmission, Helpful lessons learned..Now with pics. )have been one of the steps in the "rebuild process" ,not the Last step, since it was like this BEFORE the rebuild started?

just playin. I do hope you get it sorted out though.

Sounds like maybe your 5th gear synchro spring may be broken or as others have said your 5th/6th shift fork may be bent. Can you place the shifter into 5th gear with transmission out of the car?
