Default Larger Merge Collector

Why hasn't any of the header manufacturers developed a header with larger merge collector?

Coming from the vette world, LG's and another manf (whom i can't recall the name) use large merge collectors and they produce the most HP compared to any other header on the market for that car.

I'm wondering the S2K could benefit from a header design utilizing the bigger MC...

This topic has increasingly become more interesting to me because every time i turn a corner in the aftermarket section i see info about a new 60mm exhaust, a 63mm exhaust, and now a 70+mm exhaust...

My fluid dynamics are a little slow today, so lets get some of the Full timers who do these calculations all day long in on this for the answer.

Why is is a good idea? Why is this a stupid idea? I'd really like to know.

i would love a header with a 70mm outlet. and i would love for it to have a merge collector..

there's one header that i've seen that seems to be pretty large, but im not sure, never seen any specs on it

http://www.nsptuner.com/product_info.php?c...roducts_id=2413

eventually i will probably contact burnsstainess.com for a header design and have someone local build it.

I would guess it is because there is so little power to be had with the S2000 header. We have seen many variations with no large gains, they simply alter the curve a little or loose power. No bang for the buck.

the skunk2 header that i believe honda-tuning is testing looks interesting. they said that the stock and all aftermarker 4-2-1's are not paired correctly because of space constrictions. skunk2 paired them correctly, and their header has much longer primaries, the header comes up very high in the engine bay, the tubes come up before going down. they said they did that so that they can pair the correct cylinders and get the correct length out of it. they're expecting it to be the best out there.

they're skimpy on the details because its still under R&D. the only thing they got was that the primaries are about a foot longer. they say the tubes are longer because the skunk2 header pairs off primaries in sequential diring order, 1 with 3 and 4 with 2. whereas the OE and other aftermarker headers pair primaries non-sequentially.

august issue. they also install the skunk2 cams. its an f22 btw.

edit: switched servers to get it full size

they also say in this issue that their exhaust has a 70mm main pipe that splits into two 60mm pipes. so, with that said. .i can only hope/assume that their header has a 70mm outlet.

the prostreet icon is covering up "8hp"

wow... looks great... very long too!
I can't wait!
If it's around $600, which I expect it to be (skunk2 had some very decent prices) - That will be one badass header.

It should produce more power than any more expensive header too...

A big merge collector reduces ground clearance. The tri-Y Toda hangs a bit further down than stock, and are commonly scraped on stock height cars.
