Default koni question

when using the koni shock/aftermarket spring is suspension geometry fixed as it is with coilovers? i understand that RCA and drive shaft spacers are required to completely fix suspension geomtry, but i'm trying to compare the konis and coilovers.

And for anyone that can answer his question, please answer mine too.

Would Koni Yellows lower my car even more? I just have Eibach springs.

anyone correct me if i'm wrong but the koni yellow's will NOT lower your car depending on what perch you set them on..the koni's are adjustable and if you put it on the highest perch it'll act as "oem" shocks (in terms of height)..lowest perch and you'll get an additional .5inches to the ground.

With "fixed" you mean "at OEM hight"?

There are multiple possibilities.
Koni + stock spring @ high perch = OEM hight.
Koni + stock spring @ lower perch = a bit lower.
Koni + aft. spring (with OEM lenght) @ high perch = OEM hight.
Koni + aft. spring (with OEM lenght) @ lower perch = a bit lower.
Koni + aft. spring (shorter then OEM) @ high perch = a lot lower.
Koni + aft. spring (shorter then OEM) @ lower perch = a lot lower.

2 out of 6

i understand that RCA and drive shaft spacers are required to completely fix suspension geomtry
I don't know if it is necessary to use spacers with only a 1/2 inch drop with the koni's on lower perch and OEM springs.
I guess it is when using shorter springs, on the lower perch.
It all depends on the drop once the car is back on its wheels IMO.
With drops more then 1 inch I would use spacers and RCA's (allthough I have to admit I don't know what they are)

I would like to add:
Koni's are adjustable, in damping, not in ride hight. (like adjustable coilovers)
Once you have chosen your perch you can not change it without taking the whole shock absorber assembly apart.

I dont understand whats 'perch'
how can we adjust it?
I have koni w/ tanabe GF210 spring on my car, and it's super low..the wheels keep hitting the fenders when driving on bumps.
I kinda wanna switch back to OEM spring instead of tanabe's , but would that look ugly with 18'' rims?...

You have to decide before install what perch you're going to use.
Koni Yellows have 2 perches.

Would that apply to Eibach springs? I assume mine are shorter cause I have a 1.5" drop. I really don't want to lower my car any more but I need some new shocks.

Yes...the Koni upper perch is supposed to be at OEM height. So if you get lowering springs on the Koni set to the upper perch, it will lower the car the same amount it would if you were using OEM shocks instead.

So if I buy Koni shocks I can pretty much leave it at its current height?

Yes...so long as you use the upper perch it will act like a OEM shock as far as ride height goes.
