I started installing my Koni/GC/Eibach setup. I have searched many threads and gained a few tips from posts here and there. I noticed that some folks were having problems with the shock's lower mounting bolts threading properly.

Because of this, I decided to test fit the bolts to the shock mount. This was tried with the shockbody in my family room- no tension/pressure. I cannot properly thread any of the bolts. I tried to run the bolt from the outside of the shock(welded nut end) and it threads fine and all the way through. The problem lies within the alignment of the two sides of the mounting tabs. I called MVP(where I purchased them) and they had said they had never heard of such a thing... especially with all four being that way. I then called Koni and left a message.

Possible fix? Really hoping to get these on tonight. And no, I don't have a vise at home. I'm still not overly happy about having to modify everything to make them work in the first place.

You need air tools. Push the Bolt in when your air tool is turning! Somehow the thread will lineup and catch. No worry!

So I should disregard any cross-threading? Anyone else?

NO! Definitely don't disregard any crossthreading. I'd be on the phone with Koni, expecting to get a working set.

There's no way I'd spend that kind of money and not expect fit and finish to be less than perfect. And I sure as hell wouldn't expect to have to cross-thread bolts just to get the damn things on the car. Not safe in my opinion.

Another possible fix is tapping the threads. Just make sure you get the right size/pitch and be aware if the alignment is correct.

I agree... installing koni's in general is a PITA. to them.

...and definitely don't cross thread the nut.

Are you having trouble getting it to line up off the car???

Yes.

And retapping the threads doesn't make sense to me because the bolt alignment is off. I've thought about opening the non-threaded hole that the bolt initially slides through. This would possibly allow the bolt to entered the threaded portion at the proper angle, but hesitate because I'm not sure that is the right solution.

How far off is it? got pics? was the box dropped in shipping?

that sounds like a pretty serious defect. Is the welded on nut in the middle of hte mount? does it look crooked?

Yes, the box was damaged, but I would think it would take some serious dropping to mess up a shock mounting bracket. Or at least I would hope so!

the shock brackets have to be strong in tension and compression, they have very little side loads on them. I wouldn't be surprised if a really bad drop bent the mounting ears...
