knuckle is out, how does my axle look?
Hey guys, just wanted to run it by you guys and see if my axle seems normal? I am replacing the hub and bearing but was hoping i dont need to replace the axle too. I marked it with the red pointer, there seems to be like a small section of the axle that is worn out, rubbing on the knuckle maybe? Or do they always look like this?
I hope its normal:
and here's the knuckle

IMO it's not normal for the (rotating) axle to be able to touch the (stationairy) knuckle.
IF that happened.
That's why there is a bearing.
The "worn" section is between the -> and the ] ?
It looks like its a bit longer, but that could be the grease/rust/dirt build-up.
Does the grease look like metallic paint?
Wipe it clean and see if there is really a groove.
IF that happened.

*and yes, there is definitely a groove, very small but its definitely there.
but i think i'm still going to use the same axle, if anything i'll have more clearance now and lighter weight! lol as long as i'm using a new hub/bearing, i think it should still be good. Just sucks that the knuckle needs to be replaced too.
If some of you have read my original post asking about the rear end noise, this sounded like a heavy wooden block bouncing around in the trunk.. THere was a large wobble too when i would put it in jackstands and shake the tires.
I guess i waited tooo long, should've fixed it early when i started hearing noises, n i thought it was road noise because most of the car is stripped inside.

That's pretty bad.
The axle looks to be ok though (deburr?)
Put some silicone kit (liquid gasket) on the face of the axle touching the inner bearing race, put some grease on the face of the axle nut touching the hub, put grease on the splines and use the 200 lb/ft torque on the axle nut.
You'll never have any axle click.
i spun the hub and saw that the entire bearing spun inside the knuckle.. (the hub didn't even spin the inner part of the bearing at all. It was easier to spin the bearing inside the knuckle
