Default Knocking noise, should I buy?

Hey everyone,

considering a s2k with 125k miles, for 5500$ Seller states has a bottom end knocking noise and needs a clutch. I am looking for a second car. This is not my daily driver. He mentioned it still runs. I’m curious, is it worth it? Trying to get it and fix the noise? Or, what does a engine replacement go for? I’m new to the s2k world and also curious if I would just go with an ap1 motor if it was a replacement or something else? Open minded here. Wondering what it would run for a engine replacement, ball park.

thanks

If it is clean otherwise, you have a garage, and can do your own work, it could be a good deal. Your expectations also matter. Understand it is not going to be the same as a $25k example and if you try to fix everything, it will nickel and dime you. If all of those things line up, $5500 is cheap for a clean rolling chassis, as far as I can tell. An engine will be difficult to source and will cost, let's say $5,000. You also have the option of going K series or something else of your choosing. I think it's priced pretty fairly and there is no right or wrong answer here.
