Default "Knock Sensor Circuit Malfunction" Question.

Bought a used S2k from a guy who thought his CEL was on because of an O2 issue (he had a test pipe installed many miles ago to replace a failed cat). We pulled the code real quick (jumping OBDII pins 4 and 9) and it shows code 2-3, or Knock Sensor Circuit Malfunction, not O2 as he suspected. Well the car was clean in every other aspect, and it was priced well, so I bought it. It even runs good. But now I want to fix? it of course.

So my question is this, do I need to be concerned as to WHY this sensor went bad, or is it a part that typically needs replacement eventually (car has 126k on it)? Replacing it seems very simple and the part is reasonably priced at <$100. So hopefully it's just as simple as that. Oh, I got under the car and physically inspected the sensor with a mirror. It looks intact from what I can see.

Thanks.

It was probably breathed on too hard or damaged during a starter/clutch change. they are quite fragile. Do check the wiring and connections first though so you don't waste money on the wrong part. Try poking at it gently and see if the housing is cracked.
