I dyno'd the K&N filter when I was getting a baseline almost a month ago. It only gained 1-2hp throughout while running richer (most likely back at the same A/F now that the ECU has relearned). Did 2 base runs being completely stock, then immediately installed the K&N, then did 3 more runs. Didn't change my mpg.
I guess the stock filter is just that good- but just has to be replaced when its time is up.
