Just replaced my retainers due to over-rev

I once overreved or thought I did. I caught it before it bounced off rev limiter or anything so believe I saved it. Never checked retainers since but it has been years and tens of thousands of miles since then.

Did you catch it before you heard it bouncing off the rev limiter? you actually have a decent amount of time to catch your error if you're quick back on the clutch. It sounds as though you may have only let the clutch partially out before noticing your mistake, or the clutch slipped slightly (in your favor).
The rev limiter from my understanding is a fuel cutoff and no more.

There is no "rev-limiter" when you're dealing with mechanical overrev.
CourageOO7, it's entirely possible that you pressed the clutch before it grabbed fully. If you had fully engaged the clutch in 2nd at 90mph, that would have been ~12.5k rpm, which would have resulted in a catastrophic failure.

I was banging off the rev limiter while accelerating at the track in 3rd gear. I shifted to 2nd unintentionally (I've only shifted 3rd to 4th 2 billion times in my life).

However, this motor has endured so much abuse. I am almost emotionally attached to it. It just keeps going and going and going and going...hehe
I did pass a 911 GT3 at that event, though...
