Doing a trans install is a HUGE undertaking. My mechanic is both looking forward to it $$$$ and dreading it.

I have the shop manual and it looks TERRIFYING. Taking out the exhaust manifold? Disconnecting the steering gear? Good lord.

hehe, yeah lots of steps. but the only step that is an anger inducing step is getting the front starter bolt. its buried really deep.

no matter, if you got a mechanic doing it watch him and help. i did all of mine myself until i needed help manhandling the tranny off and back on. and even then i have spoke to people that did that part themself to.

how much he charging? you changing clutch while in there also? i mean, its RIGHT there.

Ive considered doing the clutch. However Im in college right now and can BARELY afford the trans swap. My clutch is fairly recent (20k) and feels great. I don't think ill be messing with it.

yea i don't think the trans swap would be that big of a deal, clutch isn't that difficult, that top bolt is the hardest, wtf!! lol

Tranny swap is the equivalent of a 4.30 gear not 4.56/4.77. Still that's very noticeable.

AP2 has a 5% reduction in gearing in first gears and then a better cruising 6th gear.
