Well Im going to just get a valve adjustment done since Its been over 40k miles and replace my retainers with ap2 retainers. Have a shop which quoted me 250 for both without the materials which seems like a fair price.

Hopefully nothing more is wrong with the engine.

Yea for only the intake side. Said the retainers job is 150 and the valve adjustment is 120. He lowered the adjustment to 100 since I'm doing both. With material it's another 50 so in total it would be 300.

just a note, even if your retainers are cracked, it will not show up in the comp test or leakdown.

Got it. I was just thinking to upgrade it since he was going to do the valve adjustment either way. I see many ap1's with crack retainers but no symptoms so will see if I have any. After Ill do another compression test to see if the VA corrected it.

Make sure he knows what he's doing and you trust his rep. A VA isn't somethig where good enough works

To anyone getting a retainer job, make sure the cylinder head stays ON THE CAR

If the guy says it has to come off, he's not qualified to change a tire let alone a set of retainers.

Thanks for the update. I know he has worked on multiple s2000's before so I'm hoping he knows this. I will be sure to ask him before I drop off my car.
