Default Just completed a valve adjustment -Video added

Hey guys, just performed a valve adjustment for the first time with the help of a local member. When checking the valve clearences, noticed most if not all valves were on the tigher end. Adjustments were made on the car and it was put back together. When starting the car up, noticed a loud ticking noise which within 10 seconds turned the car back off. After removing the valve cover again, it was determined one of the valve clearances was very loose. All the valves were rechecked and then got the car up and going. Noise was gone on idle. While driving, with the windows down I can hear a slight tick I never heard before. Seems to get a bit louder as I accelerate. Is this normal when the valves are properly adjusted or do you think it can be a bit loose? Is there a way, other than taking off the valve cover, to determine if the valve clearances might be a bit loose?

Thanks

If it's slight it's normal. Remember we triple checked the valves, together. I would be more worried if you didn't hear the valve train. How is it driving, bad idle, does it feel like it's missing power?

Hey there, yea know we checked it after. Just never have had this noise with my old engine and this new one before the adjustment. I know with tigher valves you wont hear noise which is why I might be hearing it now compared to before.

Driving wise seems fine. Idles good. Power wise havent really pushed but normal driving seems to be normal. Just didnt think I would be able to hear the tick from inside the car but maybe its normal. Even did a test with the windows up and can still hear it tick a bit, around 4k. Idle its quiet.

Here is the vid. Initially just on idle and then accelerating a bit. What do you guys think? Can this be the TCT or is it valves or something else?

Also having a similar issue at the minute which I has started a thread for. Does the ticking get quieter as the car gets warmer?

I'm not sure if this is related but I'm hearing a ticking noise that gets faster and louder the higher the rpm. This only happens when the car is cold and slowly goes away until it's warmed up and it completely goes away. Could this maybe be the same issue?

Can't hurt to check. The tools to do a valve adjustment are cheap, how long ago since the last one? Ap1, Ap2?

Just as an update, Rikhemi's car was fixed last week. Went .009" on intake and .011" on exhaust. One intake was at .012" and another exhaust was .014", we adjusted those and so far so good.

You are not be trusted. I would not let you touch my car with a 10ft pole and would suggest all S2ki member do the same. Any information you provide should be considered worthless and be takes less then a grain of salt.

You have lost all credibility on this board among the S2000 community. Have a wonderful day.
