It's supposedly a quart between L and H. Anywhere between middle and H should be fine.

I always forget how much oil our car takes. Mine will usually hold 5.5 to 5.75 quarts including the filter. I belive the "5.1" that it states is not including the filter.

i'm convinced that not all quart bottles have the same amount of fluid in them...

i've always had to use over 5.5 quarts, then my last oil change 5 quarts put me over H.

what gives...

Does the dipstick need to read at High? I always put 5.1qts as Honda recommends and this reads at the 4th "x" on my dipstick when checking in my garage. On subsequent checks after at least 30 mins of cool-down, I simply make sure I'm at the 4th "x" all the time, in my garage.

Oil is necessary for VTEC but having too much can have bad consequences on the engine.
Anywhere the L and H when checked properly is 100% fine. Checking the level when the engine and oil is cool is not the proper way though. Honda's method is to warm up the engine fully, then turn it off, wait 3-5 minutes, and then check the level. It should be between L and H at this time. Personally I always fill up 5qt, which puts it near half between L and H.

My manual says nothing about warming up the engine fully or at all. It does say to wait a few minutes after you shut the engine off before checking the oil.

The few minutes are to allow the oil to drain from the motor back into the pan; in other words, near the same state it is in when the engine is cold. I always check the oil cold on a level surface (my garage floor).

5.1 isn't quite accurate.. Yeah the Manual says it, but most take 5.5 to put the oil level on the top X.

not on this issue.

i still don't believe all quart bottles consistently have exactly 1 quart.

using amsoil...oil changes have varied from 5.5 to 6.0 quarts and most recently 5.0 quarts put me over H.

i don't think a bottle is consistent in how much fluid it holds...
