Just changed my oil with
I just did a oil change over the weekend with Mobil 1 Extended Performance. I've been using Mobil 1 in the past. After the change I did notice the car idle smoother and also during acceleration. Much better than the old Mobile 1. Anyone else try this new oil yet?

I just put it in my Turbo Civic after a headgasket change this weekend. (I'm waiting to go synthetic in my S2000 still as it only has 5000 miles.) Haven't noticed much of a difference yet, but I only let the car idle in the garage so far.

I used it too, simply because the store had it instead of regular Mobil1, and it was the same price. I still will change at 3K. No difference noticed.

I put it in about a month ago. The only reason I went with it is because of the 1 year drain interval as I only put about 2000 miles on my car a year. I know I would probably be safe with any syn or dino oil but it's not that much more when you consider I only change the oil once a year.

I'm not sure I get this 15k mile oil change they are touting. I mean, the oil may be OK, but your OIL FILTER is probably shot long before 15k miles. You can have the best oil in the world, but if your filter is clogged you're still screwed.

anyone read the longterm 911 in car and driver i believe. it said that the oil filter gets replaced at 30k while the oil gets changed at 15k. i thought that was weird

Yeah, we've all been brain washed in this country to believe your oil needs changed every 3000 miles. Oil companies love it. I use synthetics for years and I simply change my oil when it starts to look bad or dirty. If I check the oil at 6000 miles and it's still clear and consistant, why should I change it? There's nothing magical going on that you can't read on a dipstick. I also grew up with the understanding that the oil filter only needs to be changed at every other oil change, we just change it at the same time since it's cheap and what the hell, we're changing the oil anyway.
Drivers in Europe usually have long intervals between oil and filter changes, nothing weird about 15K oil changes there, that's the norm. My friends 5-Series gets it's oil change at 15k like the manual says even then and he says the oil still looks good.
I refuse to believe that only BMW's, Porsches and Audi's have been enginnered to such a degree that they alone are capable of this feat.
I'm 99% sure that the Mobil 1, Extended performance oil is just a marketing strategy to get people to pay more for basically the same synthetics we've been buying for years.
