Went ahead and got the Modifry speedo calibrator install out of the way...
wired up following their instructions (seemed the simplest way)
left the harness long so I can mess with it while driving if need be
finished it up with some velcro to keep it out of the way
Self test (using LED) worked well to see if everything was fine before test driving. So far with a couple miles of driving no CEL

Is acceleration the same as the Rick 4.77 gears? More or less reliable?

SpitfireS, very good info! I spent a small amount of time working in an automotive machine shop and my brother has been working with CNC's and whatnot since he was in high school (he's 30 now). Everything you pointed out makes perfect sense. I have yet to have taken apart the Kia diff (or S2K diff for that matter) and I was hoping that the "caps" were just that and maybe we could make some chromoly or carbon steel caps like aftermarket small block Chevy main caps for example. But now looking deeper into it I see that they are threaded on the end so that may be nearly impossible to tap and have line up properly. I'm going to get this diff apart tomorrow and talk with him and see what we can come up with. I would like to be able to do some sort of cap/bolt combo that a person could just bolt up and not have to mess with a diff exchange. More updates tomorrow...

Well finally got some time to try to install these gears. Pulled the diff, tore it down, got the new ring on the diff then I pulled the stock pinion out and the bearings are different (unlike I thought)
No luck finding a good bearing puller around here (I live in small town USA) since everythings closed for Memorial Day.
So since I have to drive to work in the morning and this is my only vehicle I had to put it all back to stock and throw it back in.... sucks but at least I'm gonna get good at swapping these rear ends
Plans are to just order a new bearing and try again next weekend.
