Default Jiffy Lube Oil Filter vs. Honda PCX filter

For the past few years I've been taking my 05 S2K to Jiffy Lube and never had any issues. I just did not have the space or time to do it myself. Well I finally figured it was time to start doing it my self. Ordered the correct filters and crush rings from Handa-Accessories and got the Mobile 1 from Costco.

When I got the old filter from Jiffy Lube off, a Motor Trend filter, I compared it to the Honda PCX filter. WOW, what a difference. Here are the pics. The Honda filter is bigger in every dimension.

I'll never trust Jiffy Lube again. A quick google search revealed all sorts of scammers at Jiffy Lube.

I guess I'm lucky that I've not had any issues from this.

Wow thats a small oil filter. I never give a shop my car unless its completely necessary (alignment, paint work, ect). I like doing everything to my car myself so I know exactly what was done, and how.

The filter size indicates they used a "one size fits all" filter designed for all other late model Hondas (not the S2000). Just because it fits does not mean it will work correctly.

There are several aftermarket filter manufacturers that do not make a filter that specifically meets the S2000's requirements, and this would be an example of that. The situation would essentially be the same if you went to the dealer and they installed a CRV/CIVIC/Accord (etc.) oil filter.

The PCX filter is designed specifically for the S2000. You are not doing your car any favors by using anything else - in fact you're doing it a disservice.

You should cut open the filter to see the amount of material iside the filter. I bet it is very loosely packed filtering material.

Here are the cut open pictures. Definitely not as easy to cut in half as I thought.

Yuck, can't believe you'd take it to Jiffy Lube and use their garbage. :\

I'll cut it open and post pictures after the next change.
I plan on taking this to Jiffy Lube to see what they have to say about the difference.

looks like a re-branded Fram filter design. If you kept it on a reasonable oil change mileage you probably don't have anything to worry about. Definitely use the Honda filter from now one.
