jerky acceleration
Hi all,
ive been driving manual for a few years now, but after recently aquiring my s2k, i find that acceleration over bumpy roads (especially in second gear), for example when coming out of a roundabout, is very jerky.
at first i thought it was my throttle control due to the rough surfaces and my foot nto being able to control the gas properly, however it happens quite often and i wouldnt say im a novice manual driver, being able to heel toe and all that jazz.
is this simple driver error, or could a mechanical problem be at fault here?
clutch is heavier than stock, but i am unsure of the brand as it came witht the car and was installed 2 owners ago.
thanks
john

Welcome John...
More than likely it is driver related. Many ap1 owners complain of bucking like you describe. The ap1 throttle is extremely touchy...so much so that Honda changed the throttle in the ap2 to make it less sensitive.

yeah, i get that once in a while doing part-throttle acceleration. i first noticed it after i did the 4.77 installation (as the acceleration is more pronounced in first gear) and i thought the differential had something loose/broken...

mostly it's because the stop signs in my neighborhood have bumps and i don't need to blast the throttle in a residential area (partial-throttle). add on top of that the gearing and the bumpy area causes the jackrabbiting...

heavy clutch+bumpy roads+ap1 suspension can def. cause that. I can't imaging that there is something wrong with your car. I noticed mine does the same thing when going over really bad spots of road under part-throttle......my 6-puck clutch setup exagerated that tendency

i get that when riding the clutch in SLOW moving traffic in 1st gear... and I get tired of partially holding the clutch in, and tempt myself to idle along in 1stgear without any gas peddle use or clutch use...it idles along fine...then when i want to use the gas peddle I look like a tool as it bucks HARD.
Every std tranny based car I have owned does this (3rd car now) but the s2000 is by far the most extreme case of it.
Throw it up on the list of special features you will learn to live with, and perhaps love. Any day now your going to notice the clutchbuzz... thats on the top of the list haha Then will be the ripping roof, then it will be the fact you cant (not supposed to) skip gears while shifting, the fact that the car requires frequent checking of the oil hhmmmm what else is there???

cool the roads here in sydney are shocking to say the least. guess it is due to the touchy throttle in the lower gears, as in gears 3+ i dont find the problem as pronounced.
my loose diff isnt helping either lol
