One of my engines I bought a year ago seems to have some slight differences in some hoses and fuel rail mounts on the intake. I noticed the hoses when it arrived but didn't think anything of it but tonight while putting the fuel rail that came off my stock engine onto the intake manifold of this one I noticed that the 2 outboard mounting holes were different. On my MY01 intake the holes are slanted out and the bracket is straight and on the other engine the holes are straight and the bracket has a bend in it. Not that this is an issue since the brackets can be swapped out but it just made me think that maybe this spare engine isn't a USDM one. So is there an easy way to tell whether a motor is a US or JDM motor???

Thanks

I'm not quite sure on these ( I won't say a deff. Y or N ) but on my old del Sol and all other Honda's for that matter, the motors didn't end in a #. Like a B18C5 ( USDM Type-R motor ) was B18C in Japan. Just universal. Over here the 99' Si's are b16A2 and the del Sol's are B16A3 but in Japan they are all B16A . . . no way to tell which year or model it came from (
Not uqite sure with these but that's what I do know about telling the two apart them. Oh yeah, there will be funny little symbols on certain parts . . . it's like a "Where's Waldo" game finding them )

I will take a look tomorrow and see if there is a difference between the motor stamp on the blocks. Just be nice to know I have a odd US motor or a JDM one.

Thanks!!!

JDM motors I believe are numbered as F20C, other countries are F20C1 or F20C2.

I currently am running a JDM motor. Differences between my local motor and JDM motor are:

local motor has only one knock sensor, JDM has 2

local motor has VTEC oil sensor, JDM doesn't

JDM motor has different pistons for higher compression ratio

It looks like the numbering, VTEC oil sensor and 2nd knock sensor is what I will be looking for. I am not that curious as to tear the head off and look at the pistons.

Thanks for the info.

Well it looks like it is a USDM motor. Looks like Honda did some minor changes since they first came out. The block stamp does say F20C1 and it has a VTEC oil sensor. Now if the number behind it is a serial number then that spare motor is one of the first ones since the block says F20C1-1000036 and the one in my car says F20C1-1016229 and my other spare is F20C1-1012331.

Does it have 1 or 2 knock sensors?

about the jdm motors(F20C), since they have higher compression, how much hp do they make at the crank(compared to 240 hp for the USDM motors)?
